Custody Dispute Erupts in Gunfire in Northeast Miami-Dade, Two Injured

A child custody dispute in northeast Miami-Dade on Thursday night culminated in a violent confrontation that left two men hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO).

Deputies were dispatched to a location near Northeast First Avenue and Northeast 119th Street around 9:30 p.m. following a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered two men who had been involved in a disagreement that escalated to the use of firearms.

Both individuals sustained gunshot wounds to their upper extremities. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, one man was able to transport himself to a medical facility for treatment. The second man involved in the incident required transportation by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a local hospital. Officials have confirmed that both men are currently in stable condition and their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Crucially, children were present in the home where the incident occurred. Fortunately, all children present remained unharmed throughout the violent episode. The presence of children in such a volatile situation underscores the serious nature of the dispute.

The General Investigations Unit of the MDSO has taken charge of the investigation into the shooting. As of Friday morning, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. The unit is expected to meticulously review the events that transpired, gather evidence, and interview witnesses to determine the sequence of events and any potential criminal charges.
