Miami’s Smart City Vision: 10 Years of Progress Unveiled

Miami is poised to host the 10th annual Smart Cities MIAMI Conference on Thursday, March 26, 2026. This significant event, a collaboration between the University of Miami’s School of Architecture, College of Engineering, and the Frost Institute for Data Science and Computing, will celebrate a decade of innovation and progress in the development of smart cities. The conference aims to envision the future of urban environments, bringing together thought leaders, innovators, and industry professionals to share insights and explore groundbreaking solutions.

The conference will commence with an Industry Expo, offering attendees a platform to engage directly with faculty innovators, startups, and major corporations showcasing cutting-edge technologies. This exhibition will provide a glimpse into the future of urban solutions, allowing for direct interaction with solution providers and end-users who are shaping the future of urban environments.

The event will feature a distinguished lineup of keynote speakers, including Reid Ewing from the University of Utah, The Hon. Patrick E. Murphy, CEO of Togal AI, Dan M. Frangopol, PhD, a member of the National Academy of Engineering, and AI pioneer Jacqueline LeMoigne. Their presentations are expected to offer diverse perspectives on the challenges and opportunities in building smarter, more sustainable cities.

The afternoon sessions will delve into critical themes shaping urban development. The “Built Environment and Infrastructure” (BEI) track will focus on the physical construction of smart cities, exploring how advances in Artificial Intelligence and other technologies enable cities to better sense and respond to citizen needs. This track will highlight real-world case studies demonstrating how smart cities are transforming the way we live.

Complementing the BEI track, the “Health and Wellbeing” (HW) theme will concentrate on leveraging smart technologies to enhance community well-being. Panelists will discuss the role of sensors, innovative technologies, and digital platforms in monitoring and improving public health outcomes, offering insights into creating healthier urban spaces.
